Shay Mitchell is Filipina origin, while her father is of Scottish/Irish heritage. Her cousin, Mitchell is Lea Salonga who is a famous musical theater performer and actress. Mitchell attended Rockridge Secondary for her early days before moving to West Vancouver Secondary. In her teens, Mitchell was already a model for companies in various nations. Following trips to Barcelona, Bangkok and Hong Kong she returned to Toronto and studied acting.
